My research project aims to achieve a molecular-level understanding of the CO2 hydrogenation reaction on gas-phase bimetallic clusters, knowledge that is crucial for the rational design of future catalytic materials. We produce bimetallic free clusters from a target material across a wide compositional range by employing a laser ablation source and subsequently adsorb CO2 and H2 to characterize the structures of the clusters, cluster-molecule complexes, and intermediate products using IR photofragmentation spectroscopy, supplemented by Density Functional Theory calculations.
